The History of Remote Communications Resources Inc.

Remote Communications Resources Incorporated, (RCR Inc.) was originally established in 1992 as a link between Silicon Valley and Russian Scientists from ELAS, i.e., the former U.S.S.R.'s computer engineering section of their NASA-equivalent, Russian National Space Agency. ELAS scientists are globally respected for their pioneering work in low-level satellites, wireless computer IP networks and the creation of all computer technologies used in the world's first Space Station, MIR.

With the breakup of the Soviet Union, a number of key scientists were free to leave ELAS and in 1992 did so, forming their own computer engineering corporation known as ELVIS+ or "Electronic Computing Information Systems."

Sun Microsystems, of Mountain View, California was quick to understand the value of the brain trust situated in ELVIS+ and by way of RCR took a 10% equity position in the Russian company in 1992.

Sun Microsystems, ELVIS+ and RCR have worked on numerous projects over the last seven years: Mobile IP Software for Solaris, Radio Hardware for PCMCIA RF LANs, Java AdminStation for Network Management, Java Proxy Rely Application, SunScreen Log Browser, Cisco IOS "port" in Java, Desktop Management Interface SW for Solaris 2.x base and Network Information Security. ELVIS+ participated in the creation of Sun's award-winning SunScreen SPF-100 in 1995.

In late 1995, a small group of ELVIS+ engineers began developing an idea for a revolutionary open crypto API that would allow multi-national companies to make different cryptography engine choices in different geographies with interoperability across all platforms and vendors. Unfortunately for the ELVIS+ engineers working with Sun Microsystems, the United States Department of Commerce felt the open crypto API solution might be in conflict with existing American export control laws.

As a response to the Commerce Department's concerns, Sun Microsystems, RCR and ELVIS+ decided to go their own way on Crypto-related issues and focus their applied security solutions efforts on the overall enterprise management of firewalls, authentication, PKI and anti-virus architectures.

In 1998, 30 scientists within ELVIS+ broke away and created their own Security Enterprise Company in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, known as TrustWorks Systems BV. Those scientists have taken on the challenge of developing products across the entire spectrum of Security Enterprise Management, including Encryption.

At the same time, RCR also changed from a marketing and sales broker for ELVIS+ products in Silicon Valley to a small but independent engineering research lab and consulting group that is focused on the design and development of software graphical interface architecture across all major platforms that reflect policies, business processes and technologies that help secure extranets and support secure access for remote and mobile users.
